Not Daddy’s Little Girl
Asked on Quora: Why do men not value me as a woman? Is it because I lacked a real father figure growing up?
Answer by Tamra Coveau:
Men and other women for that matter will value you as much as you value yourself, with rare exception. I don’t know what you mean by a “real” father figure. Most of us have a parental figure that fails to be perfect. If you truly lacked a father figure, it is even more crucial that you realize that your worth comes from within.
God or the Universe put you here for a reason and you are truly unique. Whether or not you had the best role model, there are others to be found. There are male and female scientists, authors, human rights advocates, religious leaders, political activists, community workers, teachers, and others that you can find that exemplify strong role modeling characteristics.
You cannot go back in time, but you do not have to let your childhood dictate your future. Start fresh today and demand the respect that you deserve, stick to your values, speak up for your rights, take care of your responsibilities and be the woman that any father would be proud to have his daughter model herself after.
